What's special or important about a bespoke shirt? or a shirt?
For most of us, men and women combined we will spend a large portion of our lifes in shirts. Be that at work, at school, for interviews, for special occassions from weddings to parties. Shirts are something that all around the world many people wear every day of their lives.
For many people a shirt becomes a uniform and in some professions it is just that - think about the police, the military, the hospitality industry.. everyone is dressed in crisp shirts of their units colour. In the corporate office the same is often true, with styles coming and going and the unwritten uniform uniting people across the open-plan floors
A shirt may seem innocuous.. just a simple item of clothing, but often it is the first impression of us that people see. People judge us on whether it's ironed or not, any stains (heaven fordid), the cufflinks or lack of them, the collar (and of course any tie we may or may not be wearing). A shirt in a fabric that is worn or doesn't fit stands out.. A colour choice which is the norm or unique has similiar properties..
Now we haven't even touched on the fabrication and the cut of the shirt, how well it sits on the shoulders, whether the patterns match, the finish on the button holes and the buttons themeselves.
So what's special about a bespoke?
A Bespoke shirt made by a tailor or shirt maker, will be crafted to fit you, for your needs in your environment. It can be flambouyant - an act of celebration - perfect for a wedding or special occassion. It can be made discreet but perfectly crafted - think of any classic bond film..
It will be made in fabrics that you choose and love, with the detailing of the cuffs, colars, button holes as you wish.
In short it will be made for you and you alone, and gives you a chance to both enjoy what you wear so much more (there really is a difference on wearing a beautfifully cut shirt), and on the impression you make on others.
Value for time worn
I would much prefer to wear an item of clothing every other day, then rarely. If you spend £20 and only wear something a few times, it's very expensive per wear. But if you wear a shirt costing £200 a few hundred times over a year or so, then it is actually cheaper on cost per wear terms.
In the end a bespoke shirt is as special as you would have it be, and I hope you find a great shirt maker to give you a shirt you love.
